CLASS HR UPGRADE WITH CBA LICENCING SYSTEM

Course Outline

The course outline is for Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBA). Under CBA, operators will be trained to a curriculum to make them more professional in the following areas:

  • Basic Driving Skills
  • Apply Road Rules
  • Safe Driving
  • Drive in Traffic
  • Open Road
  • Manoeuvres
  • Vehicles Loaded to 75% of capacity

The CBA system has been operating in NSW since February 1995. The RTA has developed the system with support and input from all the major Transport companies, Driver Trainers, Unions and Police Force.

The Competencies are in line with the National Core Competencies for Heavy Vehicle Drivers. The system is designed to address not only the manipulative skills of driving a Heavy Vehicle as well as Observation, Anticipation and Attitudes. There are Competencies that require the vehicle to be loaded to 75% of its GVM, Secure a Load, Pre and Post Vehicle Checks and Reversing Manoeuvres. The old RTA driving test is not up to the required industry standards. The whole Transport Industry giving full support to the system which is identified as a breakthrough in addressing the correct standards required to be a truck driver beyond the year 2000.

How the system works

The operators must pass the knowledge test, then approach the RTA staff and ask for the CBA Log Book and the Guide. Fee is $22.00. We also recommend purchase of the Load Restraint Guide from RTA at the price of $10.00.

Our trainer will train the operators to the system. When they are up to the required skills he will assess them. If they are competent he will sign them off. If not competent, they will only be trained in the areas that they are not competent in.

The system is a lot fairer than the old RTA Driving Test, where they would have to complete the whole test again after waiting 7 days and paying additional fees to the RTA.

After the operator completed the CBA our trainer will sign off the Log Book. Operator then goes to the RTA to be issued with an upgraded licence. Fee is $22.00.

Costs

The cost for training per hour is $120.00, if trained in your own vehicle - $110.00 per hour.

Competency Based Training is hard to a firm quote due to the individual operators varied skills.

The average amount of lessons is 15 hours. These are people with manual car experience.

Some of the Competencies we can conduct in a group training which can cut the costs.

With an old system most operators require about 12-15 hours to pass the RTA road test.

At the end of their training operator will be a Professional Driver, who will have the correct skills to operate a heavy vehicle on todays roads.

All fees are subject to increase without notice.
