AMBERG HORROR FEST

October 2008

The New Life has been invited to compete at the Amberg Horror Fest in Bavaria, Germany.

Just when we thought, the film would have reached the end of its film festivals tour, here comes the inaugural Amberg Horror Fest with another chance to show The New Life to German audiences. This festival is shaping up to be a very exciting event full of horror features, shorts and other genre specific attractions too. The festival's aim is to showcase the best of all that is genre, including slasher, thriller, experimental and much, much more! Check their website for more details.

The Amberg Horror Fest will be running from October 28th to November 2nd at the Amberger Kinos, Amberg. The New Life will screen on November 2nd at 11pm.

  MELBOURNE UNDERGROUD FILM FESTIVAL

October 2008

The New Life has been invited to compete at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival, which takes place across several venues in Victoria's capital.

Our previous short film Twitch had its festival premiere at the very first edition of MUFF in the year 2000. Now in its ninth year, the event has grown and matured enormously, and it looks like it will host the last festival screening of The New Life, after exactly two years of the film doing the rounds across the world. MUFF's program spans for ten days and it looks very promising, including local and international premieres of truly independent films with a skew towards genre.

The screening of The New Life will take place on Friday 17th October at 7pm at the Noise Bar, 291 Albert Street, Brunswick.

  UNDER A BLUE MOON

October 2008

The New Life has received a last minute invitation to screen at the Cabaret show of Under The Blue Moon, Australia's festival of all things darkly beautiful.

Blue Moon Cabaret promises to tantalise you. The Vanguard Newtown will host a night of cutting edge cabaret arts. Main attractions include vaudelesque, charmed snake burlesque, and Victorian parlour magic; all hosted by a surprise Master of Ceremony. And of course, a line up of selected horror films will also be part of the soiree, and we think it's a fantastic context for The New Life, in particular for Kaja's Succubus character.

Under The Blue Moon takes place at different venues from September 27th to October 6th. Blue Moon Cabaret is on Thursday 2nd October at The Vanguard, 42 King Street, Newtown. Doors open at 7pm, show begins at 8:30pm.

  SFF RATED

April 2008

The New Life will have its Greek debut at SFF Rated, the Sci-fi and Fantasy Short Film Festival in Athens.

SFF Rated started out as a retrospective of Greek Sci-Fi & Fantasy shorts, but it quickly evolved into an International Short Film Festival. The 2007 event was a big success, so they decided to go truly global this year - with a cash prize too. In addition to the 38 shorts in competition, they will also show six feature films. According to the organisers, this year's selection is the most inspired and challenging in the festival's history.

SFF Rated will take place from 10th to 13th April 2008 at the Mikrokosmos Cinema of Athens. The New Life will screen on Sunday 13th April at 7:30pm.

  A NIGHT OF HORROR Q & A

April 2008

The new edition of A Night Of Horror begins this week and starts with a special screening of The New Life, followed by a Q & A session with directors Daniel Giambruno, Dalibor Backovic and Shane K., whose award-winning shorts will also be screened.

As billed by the festival's organisers, this is a chance to see three accomplished Australian genre directors, whose award winning films have screened at dozens of festivals around the world, play their blood-drenched shorts and answer your questions about horror filmmaking. It is very likely that actress Kaja Trøa, who won the Scream Queen Award last year, and actor Salvatore Coco will attend the screening too.

How to Make an Award Winning Short Horror Film, Special pre-festival screening! Wednesday 2nd April at 7:30pm only at the Mu-Meson Archives! Cnr. of Parramatta Rd and Trafalgar St, Annandale. Tickets available at the door for $10 each.

  FANTASPORTO

February 2008

The New Life has been invited to compete at Fantasporto, the Oporto International Film Festival in Portugal.

This is a great honour for us, since we didn't even submit the film but it was requested by the festival's director who happened to see it last year. It is also an honour because of the magnitude of this event, one of the biggest genre film festivals in the world. This year Fantasporto will receive the Coen Brothers, Stephen King, Frank Darabont and actor Max Von Sydow, who'll receive an award to his career. Among the shorts selected, there are works by the likes of Lars Van Trier, which is a clear indication of the high level of the program. The New Life seems to be the only Australian film in the entire line-up.

Fantasporto will take place from February 25th to March 9th. The New Life screens on Sunday 2nd March at 5:30pm at the Pequeno Auditório do Teatro Rivoli.

  VICTORIA INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL

November 2007

The New Life will be competing at the Victoria Independent Film Festival in Melbourne, Australia.

This is an excellent opportunity to show The New Life in its home country after the long round of festivals in which the film has participated overseas. This event's aim is to help filmmakers get their films seen. The organisers strive to show as many quality films as they can, to as many people as possible. The festival features many different categories including narrative shorts, docos and animations.

The Victoria Independent Film Festival will take place from November 22nd to 29th at The Glitch, 318 St.Georges Road, North Fitzroy. The New Life will show on Saturday 24th at 6pm.

  SANTIAGO INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

November 2007

The New Life has been selected to compete at 15th edition of the Santiago International Short Film Festival in Chile.

During its fifteen years of existence, this festival has become one of Latin America's most important. Short films have conquered their own cultural space in Chile and they are actually booming as a form which has even made its incursion in cinemas and TV channels. This wouldn't be the case if the Santiago Short Film Festival wasn't there. Throughout the years, they have played more than 2500 shorts, and brought home the best exponents from around the world to the thousands of viewers who attend the event every year.

The Santiago International Short Film Festival will take place from November 8th to 14th in the Cine Hoyts, La Reina, Santiago, Chile.

  SHOW ME SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL

November 2007

The New Life has been selected to compete at the Show Me Shorts Film Festival in New Zealand.

This is the only film festival dedicated to show shorts from both sides of the Tasman. It is a great opportunity for local filmmakers as the festival tours around New Zealand's four major cities: Auckland, Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington. This will be the New Zealand's premiere of The New Life, and ironically, that will give the film a bigger exposure over there than what it has had in Australia. Director Daniel Giambruno is likely to attend one of the last screenings of the festival.

Show Me Shorts Film Festival will take place from November 8th to December 1st 2007. The New Life will screen as part of the block entitled I See Dead People.

  FILMSTOCK INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

November 2007

The New Life has been selected to screen at 8th edition of Filmstock International Film Festival in Luton, United Kingdom.

Since its first event, the Filmstock International Film Festival has seen many changes. However, the devotion to independent shorts, features and documentaries remains, along with the idea that the filmmaker should be welcomed with open arms but treated no differently to the audience or festival team. Daniel Giambruno's previous short Twitch was screened here in 2001 when the event was barely one year old. Daniel will be able to attend the upcoming edition to present The New Life in person and finally get to meet the festival's organisers.

Filmstock will take place November 1st thru November 11th 2007 at The Hat Factory in Luton, UK. The New Life will screen on November 4th at 2pm with an encore screening at 4:10pm.

Red Blood Buenos Aires is the only festival specialised in fantasy, horror and bizarre films in Argentina. It was founded as a natural response to the increasing interest from filmmakers and audiences for these genres, and also due to the absence of other outlets for such films in the commercial exhibition circuit. The New Life will have its Argentinan premiere here and will be competing for the audience award.

Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre will take place November 1st thru November 7th at the Complejo Tita Merello, Suipacha 442, Capital Federal. The New Life will screen on November 1st at 6pm.

In the past, the festival has received well known cult directors like Dario Argento among others. This year, apart from the many cinematic attractions on offer, there will be a guided tour of esoteric Turin, often considered Italy's magic city.

The ToHorror Film Festival kicks off on October 31st and ends on November 3rd. The New Life screens on the opening night at Cafe Liber at 8:30pm.

  DUKE MITCHELL FILM CLUB

We've scoured the four corners of the world to bring you the most terrirfying short films ever made. Dare you enter our basement of screams?"

  WEEKEND DE LA PEUR

August 2007

The New Life will play at the Weekend de la Peur in Lac de St Cassien, Montauroux, France.

This out-of-competition screening is possible thanks to the fact that this festival will be showing the winning Australian line-up of A Night Of Horror, where Kaja won the Scream Queen Award. It is an excellent opportunity for people to see The New Life in France, a country where festivals seem reluctant to show English speaking horror/fantasy films, particularly if they are as atmospheric as The New Life since these festivals seem to be polarised between those which will reject anything supernatural, and those which will only embrace the goriest horror films. So this is a great chance to screen our film in France and we're very thankful for it.

Weekend de la Peur takes place from 23rd to 26th August. The New Life, and the rest of the Australian line-up, will screen on Friday 24th at 9am at the Salle de Cinéma "Maison pour Tous" in Lac de St Cassien, Montauroux, France.

This festival is shaping up as a great event for horror fans who can't wait for the Sitges Film Festival in October and want to be part of the vibrant atmosphere of a brand new event with maybe less wellknown names but with a similar spirit to the one that triggered the now world's biggest fantasy and horror festival forty years ago.

The Cryptshow Festival will take place from 12th to 14th July 2007 in "Café Suau", 32 Josep Royo Street, Sant Adrià del Besòs, Catalunya, Spain. The New Life is scheduled to screen (with Spanish subtitles) on July 13th at 7:30pm.

As this is very much the spirit in which The New Life was made, we are very happy for it to take part of this event, that will also mark the film's Ukrainian premiere. 32 films from 13 different countries will compete in the three typical categories, animation, experimental and fiction.

  ÅRHUS FESTIVAL OF INDEPENDENT ARTS

April 2007

The New Life has been selected to screen at the international film competition of the Århus Festival Of Independent Arts, that takes place at the end of April in Denmark.

This is an international festival for independent filmmakers and video artists, focusing on artworks that appreciate the artistic value more than the commercial aspects. A welcoming place for a radically minded new generation of filmmakers, for freedom of expression, alternative vision and inspiration, for small stories in a big form, all kinds of unusual content, and everything that focuses attention artistically. We are very happy to see The New Life participating at a festival with such a great philosophy.

Århus Festival Of Independent Arts will take place between 25th and 30th April 2007 in Århus, Denmark. The New Life will be shown in the Little Devils program on Saturday 28th April at 11pm and on Monday 30th April at 7pm.

  WORLDFEST INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL

April 2007

The New Life has been nominated for a Remi Award at the 40th edition of WorldFest Independent Film Festival in Houston, Texas, U.S.A.

WorldFest nominates only the four top entries of each category and gives Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze awards; hence The New Life has already won one of these. We still don't know which one but we'll have the answer very soon. With more than 4,500 entries in the 40th Annual WorldFest, including over 500 features and 1,500 shorts; to be selected for an award is therefore a very significant honour... from the festival that discovered Spielberg, Lucas and Lynch.

  WEEKEND OF FEAR

April 2007

The New Life has been invited to screen at Weekend Of Fear, the International Festival for Horror, Thriller, Science Fiction and Dark Films that takes place in Erlangen, Germany. This is a 17th century town in the middle of Northern Bavaria, 15 km away from Nuremberg.

2007 is the official 11th anniversary of WOF, but it started earlier, around 17 years ago. The makers of HOWL Magazine thought that something had to be done to give horror a chance in the German film festival landscape. WOF has become a “cult” festival but it's still an independent “show”, working without any financial support from the German government, but as its organisers say: "It's bad to have less money to organize, but it gives us free hand to do what we want". Around 400 to 700 people party out throughout three nights with the WOF team.

Weekend Of Fear will take place between 27th and 29th April 2007 in Erlangen, Germany. The New Life will screen at midnight together with the thriller Bad Reputation on Saturday 28th April.

Cellu l’art intends to offer a wide variety of features and shorts across all genres. One goal of this festival is to provide a platform in Germany as well as in Europe for emerging Australian filmmakers to present their work. We are delighted to have been chosen to represent Australia in Jena, home to poet Friedrich Schiller and optical engineer Carl Zeiss.

Cellu l’art takes place from the 20th to the 22nd April 2007. The New Life screens as part of Block 1, on Saturday 21st at 6:45pm.

  A NIGHT OF HORROR

March 2007

The Australian premiere of the The New Life will take place at the inaugural international fright fest A Night Of Horror, in Sydney towards the end of March.

This is a festival for horror fans by horror fans. A genre very often neglected by the long established festivals in Australia, which is a real shame since horror and fantasy are commonly acknowledged as the genres which give filmmakers the most creative freedom. However, A Night Of Horror is shaping up to be a fantastic weekend with films from all over the world split in three sections: live action horror, animated horror and another one dedicated to short films based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft.

A Night Of Horror will take place between 23rd and 25th March 2007 at the Chauvel Cinema with the awards night across the road at the Paddington RSL. The New Life will be showing on Saturday 24th March at the Chauvel at 10pm; visit www.mca-tix.com for tickets.

  VISIONARIA TOSCANA VIDEO FESTIVAL

October/November 2006

Also with the presence of Director Daniel Giambruno, The New Life has been taking part of the international competition of shorts at Visionaria, in Siena and Piombino, Tuscany, Italy.

This festival has gradually turned almost gigantic; its 15th edition spans for a whole month with many different events, which includes the main competition but also many other sections. The twenty finalist films in competition are screened in many different venues in Siena and nearby towns. We are very happy to see The New Life shown many times in Tuscany, land of Dante Alighieri, whose work La Vita Nuova somehow sparked our film.

The New Life first screened at Visionaria at 9:00pm on Wednesday 25th October at Centro Civico La Meridiana, Siena, Italy. The Festival ends however on November 25th at 9:00pm with the Awards Ceremony at The Metropolitan Cinema, Piazza L. Cappelletti, 2, Piombino (LI), Italy.

  FANO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

October 2006

The Italian and Western European premiere of The New Life took place as part of the Fano International Film Festival near Pesaro, Italy.

The film obtained here its first accolade in the form of the Jury's Honourable Mention. This festival has gained great prestige and interest over the years in Italy and abroad. It has become a landmark for filmmakers, experts and the specialized Press as a significant and qualifying moment for the genuine independent national and international cinema. Its main aim is to promote the release of films by directors whose innovating, artistic language and meanings are able to express new ideas, themes and subjects. The Festival has always singled out and awarded up-and-coming directors and films that have later reached success.

With the presence of Director Daniel Giambruno, The New Life was screened at 9:00pm on Tuesday 24th October at the beautiful Teatro della Fortuna in Fano, Pesaro, Italy.

BRNO 16 - INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIVE FESTIVAL OF SHORT FICTION FILMS

October 2006

The World and Eastern European premiere of The New Life took place at the 47th edition of Brno 16, the International Competitive Festival of Short Fiction Films in the Czech Republic.

This long established and prestigious event had a long tradition as a renowned international competition of amateur live-action fiction film. Later, the festival shifted significantly to provide a forum for the non-commercial live-action fiction short film and video production of amateurs, students, and independent professionals. While the festival screens works from all over the world, it gives viewers the chance to watch the best short films of Central and Eastern Europe.

With the presence of Director Daniel Giambruno, The New Life premiered as part of the professional competition at 4:30pm on Wednesday 18th October at the Bretislav Bakala Hall in Zerotínovo Square, Brno, Czech Republic.
