Actress Kaja Trøa has been pretty hectic in the last couple of years and her career will only make her busier if the commitment and bold attitude shown with her performance in The New Life are anything to go by.

Kaja, who trained at the Ensemble Theatre and at the Actors Centre in Sydney, describes live theatre as her passion, yet she is by no means a stranger to Film and Television. Apart from having worked as a presenter for the program Just For Kids, and after many TV Commercials, last year she landed the role of Serena Popovic in the drama series Headland. However, the time dedicated to the small screen would be little compared to her movie performances which span from the Bollywood production Fire Of Love, passing through shorts films like The New Life and The Candy-Date, to her demanding role as Samantha White in the indie feature film Bondi Chronicles.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Kaja also employs her time doing charity work as a Southern Cross Peace Angel.

What attracted you to The New Life as a project?

It was honestly the script and the range it required as an actress. Tapping into that dark yet powerful space was an attraction and challenge for me, especially having played a victim in my previous film. Yet more importantly, when I met Daniel and discussed the script with him I felt a strong connection and passion for the film and its context.

How was working with actor Salvatore Coco?

Working with Sal was a pleasure and a privilege. He is absolutely amazing at what he does. He has an amazing talent and a tremendous amount of humility, which is rare for a man of this calibre. I sincerely hope he pursues his profession and finds the success and recognition he deserves. He possesses an unusual amount of sensitivity and most importantly, a great sense of humour. He also has worked with some great people and has a lot more experience than what I do, which he generously shared with me. The night before my biggest shoot, the day before my biggest and most crucial day of filming, he generously came over and shared his time to help me with my lines. It was my birthday and I had been still involved in a previous production, which was way too consuming. I had locked myself inside at home to the dismay of my family and friends. He drilled me and was a huge help. I was quite stressed out, and very nervous. Yet I realised it was such a privilege to be involved in such a great production, so I guess the pressure was on and I was a lot relieved by Sal’s help. I was very lucky to be working with Sal. He is a very committed and passionate actor and taught me a lot... and pardon the pun, I was probably a huge pain in the arse! I appreciate his time and patience.

How was working with director Daniel Giambruno?

Working with Daniel was the biggest privilege. Such an artist and talented patient man! I was truly blessed to have been cast by him and to know him to this day. I really felt a strong connection with him, his work and the script. Plus the way he treated all cast and crew was completely professional and very respectful. He has great taste, on every level, and great patience. I felt a great trust with him, which as a control freak out to control a drama queen, is quite a challenge. Again like Sal, I also sincerely hope he finds the success and recognition he deserves and it would be a dream to work with him again. What more can I say except again, he possessed a great sensitivity and patience! How blessed I was!

What's your favourite memory or anecdote of the shoot?

Favourite memories, giggling my over exposed tits off with cast and crew. Working with such professionals and gaining so much pleasure out of it. Morphing into such diverse characters. Filming up the Central Coast of NSW with everybody. A working holiday! A excuse to get out of Sydney and c’mon… having the licence to research and tap into the demon of sexuality, Lilith, a Succubus. The whole dress-up energetic thing! And yes, I did do my research!

Thank you Daniel for allowing me to be a part of such a great creation. Oh, Darren the make-up artist, such a talent and joy! But the list goes on, yet they were my three faves, Dan, Daz and Sal. Thank you so much!
