While the control fish remained healthy and gained weight during 14 days of treatment, exposed fish exhibited toxic responses ranging from anorexia, depleted PCV (anemia), weakness, to leucopenia. Tissue histopathology revealed marked inflammatory cells infiltration. Plasma biochemical studies revealed a high alanine aminotransferase (ALP), alkaline phosphates (ALP) and aspartate aminotransferase. (AST). The study showed that lindane even in low doses is very toxic to Clarias gariepeinus and its pollution of our water resources poses danger to Clarias gariepinus, a major fresh water fish in Nigeria.
