4. REPORT This is a well written analysis concerning effects of iron deprivation on the expression of sphingomyelase in pathogenic serovar lai, backed by sequencing studies showing the 42 kDa in the outer membrane vesicles. The work identified tentatively, an eflux protein LA0957 similar to TolC of E coli. The authors showed that in high iron samples these proteins were absent as well as in non-pathogenic variants. The works does lend support to the proposed hypothesis that iron deprivation may be one factor that induces the expression of sphingomyelase. The title appears to be inappropriate see First sentence discussion. Recommend as cited above. If authors disagree explain why/justify. Thank you
