ABSTRACT
Chwen LT, Ling FH, Manti R, Koon TB., Effect of Dietary Chromium Picolinate
on Abdominal fat and Lipid Metabolism in Broilers, Online J Vet Res 6: 47-52, 2002 Abdominal fat and blood lipid concentrations were
determined in 280 broilers randomly fed 0ppm (controls), 150ppm and 300ppm
chromium picolinate supplement. Plasma triacylglycerol concentration and abdominal fat/body weight
values were lower (P < 0.05) with the supplement whereas plasma protein,
total cholesterol, cholesteryl ester, free
cholesterol, phospholipid and very low-density
lipoprotein concentrations did not change significantly. The results suggest
that chromium picolinate may alter lipid metabolism,
reduce VDLD particle size and abdominal fat.
KEY-WORDS: chromium picolinate, blood lipids,
abdominal fat, broilers.
