ABSTRACT
Sarkar
K, Kumar Roy B., Disposition kinetics of gatifloxacin
after single oral administration in healthy and hepatopathic
turkeys. Online J Pharmacol., 7: 42-48, 2011. Disposition
kinetics of gatifloxacin was determined after a single
dose oral administration of 20 mg/kg in 6 normal and 6 paracetamol
induced hepatopathic turkeys (3-4 kg), aged 1 to 1.5
yrs. Plasma Cpmax which occurred at 2h was
similar in hepatopathic (5.94±0.29 µg/ml) and normal
turkeys (5.33±0.26 µg/ml). Plasma Cpther
remained for 48h in hepatopathic and 24h in healthy
birds. Plasma t½β took longer in hepatopathic turkeys (11.52±0.20 h) compared with normals (6.26±0.45 h). Plasma ClB
was lower (6.25±0.35 ml/kg/min) hepatopathic birds compared
with healthy ones (8.28±0.46 ml/kg/min). Mean Vdarea
of gatifloxacin in hepatopathic
turkeys (6.23±0.36 L/kg) was significantly (p<0.05) higher compared to
healthy turkeys (4.94±0.28 L/kg). Results suggest that 12.52 mg/kg oral gatifloxacin could be administered at 88h interval in hepatopathic turkeys.
