Background
----------
Admiral Hunter's home is a small mining colony in the vicinity of
Faraway station in the Ariadne system (coordinates). The area of
space, while within the borders of space controlled by the
Federation, holds no particular interest for Starfleet, and can be
described as somewhat 'out of the way'. The remoteness, however, is
alleviated by the fact that in the same area, there are a number of
colonies as well as a few smaller states. Being the one major
trading post, as well as sporting the closest maintenance/repair
facilities, Faraway station sees a good deal of traffic, but is
generally known as 'rough'.
For the most part, the miners keep to themselves, only seeking out
the station for its amenities and the opportunity of selling off
goods outside their longer-standing contracts. Gas mining being the
hazardous operation that it is, one might expect the usual mix of
those who have hit upon hard times, and those who for other reasons
find this way of life appealing.
Instead, a distinct culture has evolved among the miners which
exhibits some aspects of a tribal nature. They seem to consider
themselves a family group, with no smaller entities. Children are
brought up by the whole community, questions of paternity are
considered unimportant. Each member born to the groups obtains one
name, there being no reason to express ties to a family or other
sub-entity. Most of the members are originally Terran humans.
Children are taught by members of the group, suitable individuals
providing the training in various subjects, and start helping with
the mining work once they reach their teens. (For a more detailed
description, see "The Miners from Faraway - an artificial society",
Annals of Sociology, and the attached bibliography.)
While most of those born to this group elect to stay, it is by far
not unusual to find individuals making a life for themselves away -
among those, Starfleet with its opportunities, guaranteeing a sound
education at no cost, with enlisting being the more common mode of
entry.
Choosing to follow the same course, Hunter first attracted attention
when, under risk to her own life, she rescued a fellow crew member
from a burning hold. Having been selected for NCO school, she
continued to impress her superiors, who decided to make her a fleet
appointment to SFA. From there on, her career was successful without
being outstanding. Captain Hunter was chosen for Flag Officer
Orientation School, and promotion to Rear Admiral, in 2409.
Rear Admiral Hunter is widowed and has one daughter, who has decided
to follow her mother into the fleet, and is currently training at
Starfleet Academy.

Skills Profile (SD 101001)
--------------------------
Accomplished officer with a reputation of never giving up. Came into
her own once she had achieved command; successfully there with
various classes of vessels as well as a TACRON tasked with driving
away a group of splinter Borg from what nominally was Federation
space. Old-style space warfare officer, no diplomatic or political
ambitions.
Psychological Profile
---------------------
'Admiral Hunter is no doubt a perfect example for the much-made-of
fact that successful Starfleet Officers come from all sorts of
backgrounds. While she probably will always stay more of a hands-on
person with a bit of a rough-and-tumble mentality, I would by no
means say that she is out of place among those of flag rank. Her past
service history suggests a certain tenaciousness which is doubtlessly
a reflection of her character. Well-liked among peers and
subordinates (in particular the enlisted, it seems, which, of course,
is not unknown for a mustang), she has occasionally got on the wrong
side of a superior due to being overly frank - again, an obvious
character trait.
The death of her husband, while something that no doubt did not leave
her untouched, is something she is coping with as well as expected.'
Personal Interests
------------------
Poker, music (Admiral Hunter plays the trumpet and occasionally takes
part in amateur performances), fishing, history.
