Deputy and Chief of Staff for Shore Establishment, Gold Fleet

Rear Admiral E.B. (Ben) Spence became Deputy and Chief
of Staff for the Shore Establishment, Gold Fleet in 
February of 2411.  As CSGOLDSHORE, RADM Spence is 
responsible for the management of all Gold Fleet shore 
installations, including SB Beta.  

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Admiral Spence attended
secondary school at The Phillips Academy (Andover), and 
is a graduate of Star Fleet Academy (Bachelor's degree 
in History).  After graduation, he attended Space Warfare
School and was posted as a DAMCON DivO on the USS Hyman 
Rickover, and later as NAV on the USS Alfred von Tirpitz.  
He went on to serve as TAC on the USS Melbourne, OPS on 
the USS Columbus and XO of the USS Saratoga before 
attending Star Fleet Staff and Command College.  

Admiral Spence also holds a Master's degree from Harvard 
University (in History).  After Staff & Command, he went 
on to serve as XO of the USS Agincourt, and CO of the USS 
Yorktown.  After leaving the Yorktown, he was CO of the 
USS Hood during the testing of her experimental refit, and 
finally CO of the USS Eisenhower, the first of the 
Eisenhower-class assault landing craft.

Admiral Spence attended Flag Officer Orientation School in 
2408.  His first flag assignment was adjutant to the CSFO 
(under ADM H.A.E. Fairweather); afterwards, he went to 
Green Fleet as COMTACRON-34 and Deputy CINCGREEN.

Among Admiral Spence's decorations are the Star Fleet 
Achievement Medal, Silver Lifesaving Medal, and 
Distinguished Service Medal.

Admiral Spence and his wife Shirley (nee Landon) make 
their permanent home in Boston, Massachusetts.  Their 
son, LTJG E.B. Spence, jr., is currently serving on the 
USS Resolution.  Their daughter, Linda, is an undergraduate 
at Harvard University.
