One of the first artists was Emille Galle, an artist who worked with ceramics and glass and used natural forms to create beautiful lamps, vases and furniture.
Art Nouveau architects tried to use new construction materials, such as glass, cast iron and ceramics. Thanks to glass and cast iron the could built buildings that were bigger, more spacious and light, like the Grand Palais.
The philosophy of Art Nouveau was to make everyday objects more beautiful, and they did this using the new materials. For example thanks to electricity they made fabulous lamps.
The Gare d’Orsay is a huge station situated beside the Seine river in Paris. The Gare uses new materials- cast iron, stone and a luxurious glass roof, and it represents the pleasure and beauty of the Belle Epoque.
