Tony Sims - Neo-Pastoral Poetry.

[A current fancy!]

^^

In these poems I use punctuation
as Chaucer & Shakespeare did,
as instructions for reading the poems aloud:

Comma ---- pause, voice level.
Semi-Colon ---- long pause, voice level.
Colon ---- very long pause, voice level.
Full Stop ---- long pause, voice inclined down.
Exclamation Mark ---- show emotion [not loudness].

End of line without punctuation ---- half pause.

=========================================

Also, I use an end of stanza as a long pause.

^^

p.s. In these poems, the titles are in prose.

Observation of an insect over ten seconds, disseminated in discontinuous fragments of contigious thought.

by Tony Sims (Copyright, 2008)

A blur of black preambles
the verge garden's edge,
tracing to and back.
A bulbous end,
but otherwise, undefined
dark hurried flying.

A quarter second hover.
A clear clean sight:
Abdomen
with crosswise
blue and white bands.

In photos, the white shows
more thickly than the blue.
But to my eyes,
the intense blue matches
the white in width.

The former,
the perception of reality.
The latter,
the reality of perception.

Blue Banded Bee.
Genus Amegilla.
Buzz pollinator extraordinaire!
Fertilising finessely!

Secures the shapeliest pollen
to well please
on the stoutest stigma.

Ignores insipid flowers,
which seem fair enough to me.
Adroitly senses sweetness.

Only the finest flowers
deserve the finest Bee.
