THE NATIONAL PARK

NEW SOUTH WALES

 

It was created as "The National Park" by the New South Wales government in 1879; and is the second oldest national park in the world, with only Yellowstone National Park in the USA, being older. The "Royal" that officially fronts its name now was only added in 1955 (due to a misplaced royalist fervour following the Australian visit of a certain person) so I have taken the liberty of removing it.

you travel through heath scrub on firetrails - the bushfires here are frequent & severe On this sandy fire trail, at a seemingly safe & peaceful bend, with only light & open scrub, is a memorial to volunteer firefighters killed there by a firestorm

but the above is a shallow gully, not a path
