The Sea Egg is a mystery to science. Slakhorst claims it is the fossilised brain-case of an elasmosaur, but I have my doubts. Is it the bolus of a basking shark? Who can say? Fewer than a hundred specimens have been catalogued and none have hatched. Superstitious tribes have polished the Sea Egg to a brilliant sheen and offered it to their gods as sacrifice - but whether it is an egg at all is open to conjecture
