A Short Bio of Helen Giggins

I was born in 1972 in Newcastle, to Fay and Bob Giggins. I grew up in Tea Gardens on the northern shore of Port Stephens, an hour north of Newcastle. I moved to Newcastle in 1990 to attend Uni, a disaster that saw me leave in my first semester to take up full time employment. I worked as a lab assistant in the coal industry until returning to full time study at the beginning of 1999.

The over big event in my life in the past several years was my marriage in mid 2005. So really this website should now be for Helen James, not Giggins. But I think that since Giggins is a much less common name, and because I will still be going by my maiden name professionally I will keep it as is for now.

I am currently a postgraduate student at The University Of Newcastle NSW, I completed a degree in Computer Science in 2001 and Honours in 2002. I am now into my fifth year of a PhD in Computer Science, which I hope to complete mid 2007.

I now live about 30 minutes outside of Newcastle with my husband Michael and 2 cats, Cindy and Cleo.
