Interests

This page is devoted to some of my personal interests. Should give you a bit more of an idea what sort of girl I am (sick and twisted perhaps).

Movies

Movies have always been something of a passion for me throughout my life. Although I do admit that in recent years I tend to see more movies on the small screen, rather than the big one. There just doesn't seem to be as many movies that I want to see of late.

Top Five Lists

This is something of a tribute to Nick Hornby's great book High Fidelity, recently made into a movie by John Cusack. It's quite a lot of fun making up these lists and debating over them with friends.

Top Five Movies

This one is a real toughy, and seems to change depending on my mood.

  1. Lord of The Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring
  2. Jerry Maguire
  3. The Shawshank Redemption
  4. To Kill a Mockingbird
  5. High Fidelity

Top Five Sexy Men

This is a sort of imaginary wish list, where time is not object.

  1. George Clooney (when he was in ER)
  2. Harrison Ford (circa Star Wars)
  3. Kevin Costner (Bull Durham era)
  4. Viggo Mortenson
  5. Bono (something about the voice)

Gardening

I have always loved gardening, but since moving to Medowie in early 2005, and now having access to my own yard, this past-time has now become somewhat of a passion for me. I think I've started to drive friends crazy by constantly talking about it, and always giving away the oversupply of vegies.

Recently we created two new raised beds for our vegie garden, which seem to be working out really well. The beds are about 3m long and 1.2m wide and 0.8m high. We filled the bottom half with rubble and then added about 40cm of soil to the top. This gives a great height for weeding and working the beds. The only problem we've encountered so far though is that the tomatoes at getting a bit tall to be able to stake easily. Lucky that Michael is to tall or else I'd never be able to deal with them!

My other great gardening passion of the past few years in my Bromeliads. It all started with the first one I got 2 years ago now and has now grown into a decent sized collection of them. I love the exotic colours and shapes of the foliage as well as the long lasting and spectacular flowers. The other bonus is that these plants are very low maintenance. I just need to find more room for some new ones, the back veranda is getting a little crowded now.

I'll try to get some photos of the garden to add to my photo gallery over the summer break.
